Creating and Assigning Tasks


Use Initiated By Me to create task projects, add tasks, assign users, and organize work with due dates, priorities, labels, and subtasks.

Before you begin: A task must belong to a task project. If the project does not already exist, create the project first.

Create a Task Project

  1. Go to Tasks.
  2. Click Initiated By Me.
  3. Click Create New Project.
  4. Enter the project Name.
  5. Enter an optional Description explaining the project purpose.
  6. Click Create project.

Open the Project Workspace

After creating the project, click the project title to open its workspace. The workspace shows the project task list and gives you access to Table, Board, and Calendar views for tasks in that project.

Create a Task

  1. Inside the project workspace, click Create New Task.
  2. Enter the task Name.
  3. Confirm the selected Project, or choose a different project if needed.
  4. Open the Status dropdown and select the current phase, such as Backlog or Doing.
  5. Click the Due date field and select a deadline from the calendar.
  6. Select a Priority, if required.
  7. Use Parent Task only when the new task is a subtask of an existing task.
  8. Use Labels to group, distinguish, or organize tasks by type, phase, topic, or category.
  9. Enter a short Description explaining what needs to be done.

Add Assignees

  1. Click the Assignees field.
  2. Select the relevant organization, if needed.
  3. Search for the user you want to assign.
  4. Click Add next to each user.
  5. Review the selected users, then click Confirm.

Add Labels and Save

Labels help distinguish tasks and make them easier to organize. You can select an existing label, such as Feature, Bug, or Enhancement, or create a new label if the option is available.

After completing the required fields, click Create Task.

Open, Edit, or Delete a Task

  • Click the task name to open the task details page.
  • Click the icon on the task row to view additional options, such as editing or deleting the task.
  • From the task details page, you can also edit the task, add assignees, add subtasks, attach files, update progress, mark the task as complete, and view comments or activity.

How Task Fields Affect Dashboard Stats

Field or Action Where it appears
Project Contributes to Total Projects and groups related tasks together.
Task Contributes to Total Tasks.
Status Affects Ongoing Tasks, Completion Rate, and the Task Status Breakdown chart.
Due Date Affects Overdue Tasks and the Tasks by Deadline chart.
Priority Affects the Priority Breakdown chart.
Tip: To keep dashboard statistics useful, set the task status, due date, priority, and assignees when creating the task.
